The Windhoek Hockey Tournament (WHT) is gearing up for its second edition, promising to showcase hockey talent from across Namibia and beyond.
Scheduled to take place from Thursday to Saturday at the Windhoek High School Astro field.
Organizers of the WHT, in a statement released to the Windhoek Observer, expressed their excitement for this year’s tournament. Nevil Gora, the founder of the competition, highlighted the expansion of the event, with an increased participation expected from schools in coastal towns across Namibia.
“We are excited to bring back the Windhoek Hockey Tournament for its second edition. Building on the success of last year, we have expanded our reach and offerings to make this event a true celebration of field hockey across all of Namibia,” said Gora.
The WHT aims to foster growth and development in Southern African hockey, providing a platform for players of all skill levels to showcase their abilities. With both first and second divisions, the tournament ensures inclusivity, allowing players to participate and contribute to the success of their teams regardless of their experience level.
Gora emphasized the tournament’s commitment to creating an elite educational environment, focusing on challenging hockey, team skills, and personal development.
“The tournament aims to create highly intelligent athletes within a competitive structure. The tournament stands out by offering participants more than just a series of matches,” Gora stated.
Featuring two age groups for first teams (boys & girls) and second teams (boys and girls), the WHT ensures a comprehensive and inclusive structure that caters to players across all levels of skill and experience.
With the vision to establish the WHT as an annual international event, attracting teams from schools worldwide, this year’s edition promises to be a significant step towards achieving that goal.
