ReconAfrica advances Kavango West 1X production test

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (ReconAfrica) says it is moving closer to production testing at its Kavango West 1X well in Namibia, with testing expected to begin before the end of May.

The company, also known as ReconAfrica, said the operations are being conducted in partnership with Namcor and BW Energy.

ReconAfrica said equipment and services needed for the production test have already been mobilised to the site through Namibian and international suppliers.

The production test will focus on six zones across 420 metres of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals.

According to the company, technical operations will be supported by oilfield services companies SLB and Halliburton.

Before testing starts, the company will conduct a cement bond log to check casing and cement integrity ahead of downhole production testing.

ReconAfrica said a third-party service provider is finalising the remaining transport and storage permit required for the testing programme.

The company said it remains committed to complying with Namibia’s laws, regulations and permitting requirements.

ReconAfrica estimates the production testing could take up to 10 days for each zone, with the full programme expected to continue for as long as 60 days.

The company expects to release production test results around mid-to-late July.

ReconAfrica also said preparations are continuing for appraisal drilling on the Kavango discovery, including site selection and permitting activities.

The company holds petroleum licences and exploration acreage in Namibia, Angola and Botswana, as well as an offshore block in Gabon.
