President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has paid tribute to the thousands of Namibians whose contributions to the liberation struggle may never appear in history books.

Speaking at the Heroes’ Day commemorations at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek on Wednesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said the day equally belongs to those who carried messages, provided food and shelter, crossed borders, those who remained behind and those who supported families and communities.

She also honoured those who organised, prayed, endured hardship and those who never returned home, saying Namibia’s freedom is rooted in their sacrifices and monument.

“Our freedom is in their monument,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
