Presidency denies US deportation claims

The Office of the Presidency has condemned what it described as a coordinated spread of false information intended to damage the country’s reputation and cause diplomatic embarrassment.

This follows the circulation of social media posts and online content alleging that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah ordered the deportation of over 500 American nationals in retaliation for visa restrictions.

The claims, widely shared on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook by accounts including @african_historyandnews, @its_onsiteafrica, and @afrika.world, have been labelled by the Office of the President as “fabricated” and “intended to tarnish the image of the President and the Namibian Government.”

According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, no such deportation order exists, and no mass deportation of American nationals is or will be taking place.

“The Presidency wishes to make it categorically clear that no such order of deportation or statement has been issued by the president,” the statement read.

The Presidency added that immigration-related offences in the country are handled strictly in accordance with national laws, and that diplomatic matters are conducted through proper legal and bilateral channels.

“Namibia is committed to maintaining strong diplomatic and bilateral relations with the United States of America,” the statement said, while also reiterating the country’s adherence to international norms and mutual respect in its visa and immigration policies.

The Office of the President warned that the spread of such disinformation is not only misleading but could damage international relations and the country’s standing in the global community.

The Presidency has urged the public, content creators, and media houses to verify information through official government platforms before sharing or publishing.

“The public is advised to consult the official website of the Presidency for accurate information and verified updates,” the statement said.
