Police investigating nationwide housebreaking spree

Police are investigating a series of housebreaking and theft cases reported across the country between 16 and 21 April.

In Windhoek West, a break-in was reported at the Ministry of Health and Social Services’ head office. 

An unknown suspect gained entry into the Minister’s office using an unidentified object. 

Although several items, including a laptop, a computer, and a gift bag, were tampered with, nothing was stolen. No arrest has been made.

In Otjomuise, Mpanda Street, a suspect cut a padlock to access a residence between 02h00 and 04h00 on Saturday.

Items stolen include clothes, blankets, pots, a 3kg gas bottle, a wallet with documents, and cosmetics. 

The total value of stolen items is estimated at N$5,500. 

No recovery has been made.

Klein Kuppe also recorded a housebreaking incident on Sunday between 00h25 and 04h45.

A suspect reportedly cut the electric fence and the burglar door to gain entry through a sliding glass door. Items taken include a television, a laptop, a computer, and jewellery boxes. 

The complainant was not at home during the incident. 

The value of the stolen goods has not yet been confirmed.

In Suiderhof, Windhoek, another case of housebreaking and theft was reported between Saturday and Sunday. 

The suspect reportedly broke through the boundary wall, cut burglar windows, and entered the house. 

Stolen items include a laptop, a computer, clothing, shoes, two suitcases, jewellery, and jewellery boxes. 

No arrests or recoveries have been made.

At the Onawa location in the north, a house was broken into at about 04h00 on Friday. 

The suspect reportedly opened the door using an unknown object and stole a 70-inch Samsung television valued at N$18,675 and a Redmi cellphone worth N$5,000 while the owner was asleep. 

No arrest has been made.

In Tsumeb, a flat in Kupfer Street was broken into on Saturday night. 

The complainant was away on a farm visit when neighbours noticed the break-in. 

The suspect smashed a window to gain entry and stole household goods valued at N$125,000, including a Telefunken TV, Acer laptop, beddings, a gas bottle, jewellery, meat, kitchenware, and hearing aids. 

No arrest has been made.

In Khorixas, a 32-year-old man was arrested after allegedly breaking a bedroom window near Tanisen Bar around 01h00 on Thursday.

He reportedly stole a Samsung A12 phone and a power bank valued at N$3,500. 

Police recovered all items, and investigations are ongoing.

In Katima Mulilo, an unknown suspect broke into Classic Sport Bet in the Cowboy compound on Friday at about 09h40. 

The suspect reportedly forced open the door lock and stole office equipment, including a printer, scanner, keyboard, two monitors, and cables valued at N$10,900. 

No arrest has been made.

In Impalila, two 23-year-old suspects were arrested at Gaveti village in the Kasiaka area after allegedly breaking into a house around 01h00 on Saturday. 

They reportedly raped and assaulted a 24-year-old Zambian woman after gaining entry by force.

Police say investigations into all reported incidents continue.
