Petroleum bill passed despite opposition walkout

Staff Writer

The National Assembly passed the contentious petroleum bill on Tuesday with 50 votes, even though most opposition parties walked out in protest.

Only the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters party participated in the vote alongside the ruling Swapo Party.

The Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Amendment Bill has cleared the Second Reading and now moves to the Committee Stage, which is the final phase in the National Assembly, before being forwarded to the National Council.
