A 68-year-old pensioner from the Kongola area in Zambezi Region died after a tree he was chopping down, fell on him on Friday.
According to the Spokesperson of the Namibian Police, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi Womitondo Luavunga was trapped under the tree and succumbed to his injuries because there was no one to help him when the tree fell on top of him.
“The families commenced a search and discovered the deceased lifeless body under the big tree that was still burning. The body was observed with serious multiple injuries and a crushed skull. The body was transported to Katima Mulilo state mortuary awaiting autopsy,” she said.
In a separate incident on the same day, another pensioner died after he collapsed at a Puma Service Station in Otjiwarongo.
It is alleged that the 72-year-old Ailine Mawere who was traveling from Katima Mulilo to Windhoek by public transport collapsed and fell on the staircase inside the bus when she was leaving for a toilet visit at the service station.
“The deceased was immediately rushed to Otjiwarongo State Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death,” said Shikwambi.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
Also on Friday, the 43-year-old, Cloete Obandja Sefanja, was found dead by his girlfriend in a house in Grootfontein.
“It’s alleged that the deceased was found by his girlfriend at home. When she tried to wake him up there was no response. No foul play is suspected. The body was transported to GrootfonteinState mortuary pending a postmortem report,” Shikwambi said.
