McHenry Venaani, the leader of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) claimed that the party is alone in its quest to hold the Swapo-led government accountable.
While addressing the party’s final rally in Windhoek on Sunday, Venaani stated that the PDM has a proven track record of holding the government accountable.
“There is no political party in Namibia that has the legislative record, experience, maturity and holding government to account,” said Venaani.
He believes the PDM has the legislative experience necessary to form its own government.
Venaani said PDM’s record is unmixed since it has fought against unemployment in the country.
“PDM has parliamentarians who went to prison because of the unemployment in the country,” he stressed.
He added that the party is pushing an agenda of youth diverse representation in Parliament.
Venaani encouraged the youth to sacrifice tier time by joining the long queue to deposit their votes on 27 November.
“If young people want to change their socioeconomic status, they should vote for change,” he stated.
Political analyst Sakaria Johannes said PDM has not done a lot to hold the Swapo-led government accountable.
He believes activists have done a lot more compared to PDM, which has been in parliament for so many years.
“Venaani is just campaigning. What tangible evidence does he have to show that the party has been holding the government accountable,” he asked.
“How many corruption cases has PDM fought against,” Johannes further questioned.
He said Venaani should move away from the notion of making vague statements.
Johannes, however, admitted that the PDM has stood up in parliament but there is no result to hold the government accountable.
“How much did the PDM actually achieve?” he asked.
