Leader of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), McHenry Venaani, has issued a fervent call for government intervention by assisting families affected by flood in the Omusati Region.
The dire situation in the region has left numerous people displaced, with settlements in urgent need of assistance according to the PDM office.
This comes after a recent tour of the affected region, where Venaani gained insights into the challenges faced by the residents
In response to the situation, he implores the government, through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), to implement mitigating strategies aimed at aiding the affected families and communities.
“The situation in the Omusati region is dire, with a number of people displaced and settlements in need of assistance,” said PDM.
The recommended measures include ensuring the distribution of food and water, providing health and sanitation services, offering temporary housing solutions, and establishing an emergency relief fund.
In addition, Venaani underscored the importance of these interventions in enabling affected communities to rebuild their livelihoods.
Furthermore, Venaani urged the government to prioritise the construction of roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure in areas affected by the rains, not only in the Omusati region but also in other similarly affected areas across the country.
“We believe that these measures will go a long way in helping the affected families in the Omusati region recover from the effects of the floods. The government should act swiftly and demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of its citizens,” the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition said.
He stated that the aim is to facilitate the return of displaced families and, crucially, to prevent future disasters.
