Established in 2012 by Ben Uerikua and Dr. Deon Hepute, the local football team from Katima Mulilo in Zambezi Region started as a social outlet for its founders, who found themselves far from home and in need of a weekend pastime. Little did they know that this casual initiative would evolve into a formidable force in the Zambezi Golden League.
In their debut season, the team showed promise, securing a second-place finish behind Green Eagles FC. However, their dreams of advancement were dashed in the playoffs against Namib Chiefs FC. Undeterred, they rallied in the following season, clinching the league title but falling short once more in the playoffs.
Persistence paid off in their third attempt, as they claimed the league championship and earned automatic promotion to the second division. Their maiden season in the higher tier saw them finish an impressive third on the log, with notable victories against formidable opponents like Namib Chiefs FC and Space Age FC.
Beyond league triumphs, the team has made a mark on the local football scene with memorable tournament victories. The inaugural Kavango Super Cup stands out as a crowning achievement, as they triumphed over established competitors like United Stars FC in a thrilling final match at Rundu Sports Field. Additionally, their victory over first division club Black Hawks FC in the Enkerhaus Cup showcased their caliber as a team to be reckoned with.
As they embark on the upcoming season, the team boasts a roster of standout players. Zuze Mutafela and Ndana Kabozu are hailed as midfield maestros, known for their work ethic and playmaking abilities. Rudolph Kangootui’s lethal finishing prowess promises to keep opposition goalkeepers on edge.
Moreover, Zuze Mutafela’s selection for the Zambezi Regional U-20 team underscores the talent nurtured within the club, solidifying their status as a breeding ground for future football stars.
This local team from Katima Mulilo continues to defy expectations and carve out a legacy of excellence on the football pitch.
