The local share index rose to a new 2026 high on Friday, while the overall NSX index declined, according to the latest NSX market index data for the week ended 25 September.
The NSX Local Index increased by 1.78 points, or 0.21%, to 859.89 points from 858.12 points previously. The closing level was also the index’s highest recorded level for 2026, according to the data.
The Overall Index, however, fell by 15.34 points, or 0.65%, to 2 354.27 points from 2 369.61 points. The local index has gained 6.46% since December 2025, while the Overall Index has increased by 9.94% over the same period.
Among the sectors, real estate recorded the largest increase, rising 0.75% to 2 631.11 points. Basic Materials gained 0.96% to 892.67 points, while Telecommunications increased 0.27% to 312.09 points. Consumer Staples rose 0.13% to 1 549.24 points.
The financials Index declined by 2.07% to 715.72 points, while Consumer Discretionary fell 1.13% to 1 981.73 points. Utilities were unchanged at 1 084.09 points.
The sector performance since December 2025 showed Basic Materials as the strongest gainer, up 24.77%, followed by Consumer Staples at 17.46% and Telecommunications at 4.22%.
Consumer Discretionary was down 26.13% over the same period, while Real Estate declined 2.58%, Utilities fell 2.11% and Financials increased marginally by 0.30%.
The data also showed dividend yields ranging from 0% for Utilities and the JSE All Share Index to 11.28% for Consumer Discretionary. The NSX Local Index had a dividend yield of 9.49%, while the Overall Index stood at 3.66%.
The JSE All Share Index fell 1.93% to 110 826.04 points from 113 002.48 points. According to the market data, the JSE All Share Index was down 4.32% from December 2025, while Namibia’s Overall and Local indices remained higher over the same period.
