Prime Minister Dr Elijah Ngurare has called for greater investment in youth-led businesses, saying entrepreneurship, regional trade and support for small enterprises are critical to expanding economic opportunities for young Namibians.
Speaking at the official opening of the 16th Eenhana Expo on Wednesday, Ngurare said the government remains committed to creating an environment where young people can participate meaningfully in the economy through quality youth development programmes and enterprise support.
The Prime Minister’s remarks were delivered on his behalf by Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa, as the annual trade exhibition opened under the theme, “Investing in the Youth, Investing in the Future – Today.”
Ngurare said the Ohangwena region’s strategic position as Namibia’s gateway to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) places it at the centre of regional trade and presents opportunities for young entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.
“Improving infrastructure, promoting value addition, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and embracing opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area will unlock greater prosperity for our youth,” he said.
He also urged financial institutions, development partners and established businesses to invest in youth-led enterprises through financing and mentorship, saying partnerships would help young entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and create jobs.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s call, Eenhana mayor Omri-Onn Kavandje described the expo as a platform that extends beyond business exhibitions by creating opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and skills development.
“This expo is not merely an exhibition of products but a beacon of opportunity for youth to learn, innovate and participate meaningfully in the town’s growth,” Kavandje said.
The mayor said investing in young people today would contribute to the town’s long-term social and economic development while strengthening local enterprise.
The expo, which runs until 1 August at the Eenhana Convention Centre, has attracted exhibitors from across Namibia and neighbouring countries, providing a platform for businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises to showcase products, build partnerships and explore new markets.
