The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has suspended all sporting activities across its associations and federations during the mourning period of mourning for Founding President Sam Nujoma.
The NFA’s Secretary General, Charles Siyauya confirmed the decision on Thursday, stating that the suspension is a mark of respect for the late former head of state.
‘’This suspension only applies to official matches and competitive events. Teams can continue with training and practice sessions, but we kindly ask that these be held without fans or spectators present. We encourage everyone to conduct these sessions respectfully and in line with the national mood of mourning as per the government directives,’’ said Siyauya.
The suspension affects all official league matches and knockout tournaments across all divisions, including the Debmarine Namibia Premiership, FNB Women Super League, Regional Men’s Second and Third Divisions, Women’s Regional Leagues, and the FUTSAL League.
Siyauya said the suspension is immediately in effect and will remain in place for the duration of the official mourning period or as directed by the government.
He acknowledged the disruption this may cause but called for understanding and cooperation from all stakeholders.
‘’It’s important that we stand together as a nation and honour the memory of our Founding President. We will keep a close eye on the situation and let you know as soon as we have any news about when sporting activities will resume. We will keep you updated through our official channels,’’ said Siyauya.
