The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has called 51 under-17 girls for trials in preparation for the 9th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2025.
The tournament will be held for the first time on the African continent in Morocco from 17 October to 8 November.
NFA spokesperson Isack Hamata confirmed that training for the team starts on Monday as Namibia is set to face Uganda on 16 and 19 January.
The players called to report for training include goalkeepers Useovi Mbaha and Julia Shambara, all from the Khomas region, and Ningira Kavezeri, from the Omaheke region.
Defenders are Uatentaviza Tjihitue and Joy Goses from the Khomas region, Karen Monda from the Zambezi region, Shiwovanhu Hankongo and Melania Gawas, Ashanti Garises and Kathleen Dausas from the Erongo region, Ottilia Haimudi, Kristofina Lukas, Heita Ruana from the Ohangwena region, Tina Puma from the Omaheke and Petrina Nakankeya from the Oshana region.
Midfielders are Goases Wendy, Givey Sanis and Linda Kayekwapo from the Kunene region.
From the Khomas region are Nancy Lebang, Uakuje Nanami, Cherifa Garoes, and Kanene Tjizu. Renalda Hangula from the Otjozondjupa region, Sandy Goliath, Martha Witbooi, Simona Nassau and Livia Basson are from the Karas region.
Those from Kavango West are Christine Hausiku and Musimba Lorensia.
Unice Mufuta from Kavango East is also a midfielder, as are Parrisia Haimbodi, Happyness Mbangula from the Oshana region, and Nambala Uetarera from the Omaheke region.
The strikers are Tabitha Tuhafeni from Oshikoto, Eises Grace of Omaheke, Chloe Awases, Mikaella Khairus, Rauna Uugulu, and Annamarie Kotze, all from the Khomas region.
Namibia hopes to be among the five African nations participating in the competition, which will feature 24 teams.
The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is played annually.
