The newly registered United Namibians Party (UNP) has set its focus on making Namibia self-sufficient in food production, eradicating hunger, and fostering unity.

This was revealed by the party’s vice chief, Alfons Hausiku, who stated that the UNP’s primary mission is to address the pressing issues of hunger and national unity.

“The first thing is, that Namibia must become self-sufficient in food production, and no Namibian child will die of hunger. We are servants to the people,” Hausiku said.

The Rundu-based party intends to bring unity across the country and advocate for an equitable distribution of employment opportunities.

“The party was formed to unite the Namibian people, restore morality, and ensure equal representation. We will not provide jobs until we have provided equal opportunities. We also plan to launch our manifesto soon,” he said.

UNP’s leadership, including chief servant Sakaria Amos Likuwa and national chairperson Michael Muraghuli, has committed to creating a party without branches.

“The United Namibians Party is the only organisation formed without branches. We want to unite Namibians not necessarily under one party but to reduce political divisions,” Hausiku explained.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) approved UNP’s registration application on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to the party’s leadership, ECN chief electoral and referenda officer, Petrus Shaama, confirmed that the UNP had completed the registration process.

The ECN, in its approval, reminded the party of its obligations under the Electoral Act.

“Any political party duly registered in terms of this Act must include in its official correspondence the words ‘a political party duly registered in terms of the electoral laws of the Republic of Namibia’,” Shaama said.
