The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) has expressed disappointment in remarks made by Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernardus Swartbooi, by labelling other political parties as copycats.
The NEFF regarded Swartbooi’s remarks as a regrettable representation of Namibia’s alternative political landscape.
The deputy leader of the NEFF, Iipumbu Kalimbo has challenged Swartbooi’s perspective, questioning whether the LPM itself could be considered a copycat due to its one-tribe dominance.
“The recent remarks made by Swartbooi are a very sad representation of the alternative politics landscape in Namibia,” stated Kalimbo, while highlighting the party’s concern over Swartbooi’s narrative, which he said NEFF perceives as belittling and condescending towards legitimate political entities.
Kalimbo further criticised Swartbooi’s approach, describing it as a failure to understand the essence of opposition movements and their ideological diversity.
“Swartbooi’s pursuit for attention in a space where none is warranted showcases desperation and a lack of maturity, and it is this lack of maturity that has seen him often kicked out of the National Assembly at times violently,” said Kalimbo.
He underscored the importance of constructive engagement over the toxic competition, expressing concern that such behaviour might alienate potential allies in Namibia’s democratic contestation.
While acknowledging Swartbooi’s intelligence and legal background, Kalimbo called for maturity in political discourse and criticised what he perceived as a lack of respect for other leaders chosen by the electorates.
In conclusion, Kalimbo affirmed NEFF’s commitment to uniting alternative political forces for the collective liberation of the nation, urging a unified front that transcends personal egos and rivalries.
