Organisers of the third edition of the 2024 Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament, scheduled for 21 December at Mole in Swakopmund, have confirmed that all systems are for the highly anticipated social event.
Nedbank Namibia has partnered with Connect People to People (CPTP) for this year’s tournament, moving it from the northern parts of the country to the coast for the first time, according to a statement this week from Nedbank spokesperson Selma Kaulinge.
The tournament’s first two editions took place in the north, but this year, according to CPTP representative Dave Hammond, the focus has shifted to Swakopmund to cater to the coastal town’s vacationers.
“The first two editions of the volleyball tournament took place in Ongwediva in 2022, and Oshakati in 2023. This year, we are bringing the tournament to Swakopmund because everybody comes over for the December holidays,” Hammond explained.
He added that they expect between 12 and 24 teams to participate in the six-a-side tournament, where each team, consisting of eight players, must have at least two women on the court.
The tournament is mainly a social event aimed at average volleyball players and corporate companies looking to unwind as the year comes to an end.
“We don’t expect registered volleyball players from the Namibia Volleyball Federation to participate because this event is primarily for corporates, families, and friends who will be at the coast during the day. It’s all about having fun and enjoying the day,” Hammond explained.
Only 24 spots are available for the tournament, with entry fees set at N$800 per team.
Prizes of up to N$12 000 will be up for grabs.
Nedbank’s marketing and communications executive, Gernot de Klerk, also expressed excitement about being part of the ever-growing Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament.
