The Namibia Sports Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Services and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, launched the national supporters jersey in Windhoek on Monday.
The minister of sport, Agnes Tjongarero, said the jersey can be worn by fans of all sports codes.
‘’The jerseys are part of the initiative to brand Namibia through sport and instil national unity. This is to elevate Namibia’s sports identity through national sports attire and contact with athletes. With the introduction of official supporters, we are not only enhancing the visibility of our national identity but also deepening connections between sports and the nation itself,” she said.
She added that supporters play a vital role whenever the national teams are playing because they not only support them but also serve as ambassadors for Namibia.
The minister of information, Emma Theofelus added that her ministry is in charge of a very important task of trying to instill a sense of nationhood and national pride and bring everyone together.
She said it is important for Namibians to have an identity in the national colours that inspire every Namibian nation.
“When our national teams are out there showing agility, showing their talents, showing the world their determination and bravery, as we call ourselves the land of the brave, We can all rally behind them as Namibians and we can do that by showing our commitment by wearing the national supporter jersey,” said Theofelus.
