Pedro Muyo-yeta, Acting Secretary for Political and International Affairs of the Namibian National Students Organization (NANSO), expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and vehemently denounced the recent escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that began in the first week of October.
The statement, released by NANSO, decries the ongoing violence and oppression faced by the Palestinian people, highlighting the detrimental impact on students and the future of education in the region.
The conflict escalated significantly when the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, launched a daring attack from Gaza into Israel. In response, Israel initiated a series of airstrikes on Gaza, targeting Hamas military installations.
The result has been a devastating loss of life, with over 300 individuals reported dead and over 2,000 wounded. NANSO strongly condemned these military actions, emphasizing the potential destruction of young lives and educational opportunities.
NANSO firmly stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s relentless pursuit of self-determination and liberation, asserting the inalienable right of every sovereign nation to shape its destiny free from external interference and oppression.
The organization underlines the importance of respecting the right to self-determination as a fundamental element in providing quality education, echoing the principles at the core of NANSO’s existence.
Drawing parallels with Namibia’s own struggle for independence against apartheid, NANSO emphasizes the challenges and sacrifices faced by those yearning for freedom from systems built on discrimination and oppression.
Furthermore, NANSO expresses concern about reports of an apartheid-like system within Israel, where Palestinians allegedly face institutionalized discrimination based on ethnicity.
Such practices are viewed as a direct violation of human rights and equality principles that NANSO steadfastly upholds.
NANSO calls upon the international community to respond urgently to the dire situation and demands that all parties involved initiate substantive dialogue to secure a just and lasting peace that preserves the rights and dignity of all individuals affected by the conflict.
The Namibian National Students Organization reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people as they courageously pursue self-determination and emancipation, much as Namibia did in its historic struggle.
NANSO pledges full support to the Palestinian people’s resistance against all forms of oppression and joins their call for justice and enduring peace.
NANSO remains committed to monitoring the situation and advocating for the dismantling of systems perpetuating oppression, particularly as it relates to the right to education for all people around the world.
The organization envisions a world where every individual is treated with unwavering dignity and respect, transcending nationality or ethnicity.
