The Namibian Police Force has formed a new partnership to significantly enhance its capabilities through a dynamic collaboration with the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM).

This collaboration has given birth to a comprehensive leadership and development training program, aimed at empowering police officers with essential skills.

The initiative, focused on enhancing leadership skills and fostering professional growth within the police force has already commenced.

Namibia’s growth since gaining independence has brought about new challenges, particularly in the quest to transform the nation into a knowledge-based economy, as highlighted in the National Development Plan III.

One of the key challenges lies in building a skilled workforce.

To address this need, the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) was established by an Act of Parliament, the NIPAM Act 2010 (Act 10 of 2010).

It was officially inaugurated on 25 February 2011 by former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

NIPAM’s core mission is to transform the public service in Namibia by improving management, leadership, and professional competencies.

Additionally, it aims to cultivate a culture of purpose, values, and professional traditions among public sector employees.

The training program, which kicked off at NIPAM, will accommodate twenty (20) members of the Namibian Police Force.

These participants were carefully selected from various Directorates, 1st Divisions, and Regions across the country. The diverse group will undergo a curriculum in training tailored to nurture leadership qualities, refine management skills, and stimulate professional development.

The partnership between NamPol and NIPAM emphasizes the commitment to equip law enforcement officers with the necessary tools to serve the Namibian public more effectively.

The training program is expected to cover a wide range of subjects, including leadership principles, conflict resolution strategies, communication and interpersonal skills, crisis management, and decision-making in high-pressure situations.

This initiative marks a significant step towards bolstering the capabilities of Police officers, ultimately enhancing public safety and security in Namibia.
