President Hage Geingob was admitted to a hospital in Windhoek for a follow-up procedure on the aortic valve procedure he underwent in South Africa on 8 June 2023.
According to a statement issued by the Namibian Presidency, the procedure in Windhoek went according to plan and Dr Geingob is in good spirits.
In June President Hage Geingob was flown to South Africa to undergo a preventative surgical procedure after the presidential medical team detected a mild aortic stenosis during a routine medical checkup.
At the time the medical staff advised that President Geingob be flown to South Africa where underwent a preventive minor aortic valve procedure.
The Presidency said in June that the surgical procedure had to be done in South Africa because Namibia does not have the necessary medical expertise to perform it.
After the surgery in South Africa President Hage Geingob took to social media to thank every person who sent him well wishes.
“I would like to thank the Namibians, cabinet colleagues, leaders of political parties, comrades and friends from all over the world for all the kind messages of support and well-wishes following my aortic procedure on Friday,” he said in the message.
With regard to the latest procedure in Windhoek, the Presidency said that Dr Geingob is set to be discharged on Friday 28 July 2023 and that he will resume his official duties on 2 August 2023.
