Only a few days remain before Namibia hosts the Africa Netball Cup tournament, and preparations are nearly complete before teams begin to arrive in the nation.

Netball Namibia’s president, Rebecca Goagoses told the Windhoek Observer on Wednesday that Namibia is ready to receive the visitors and give them a remarkable event and hospitality.

The tournament, featuring men’s teams for the first time, will take place at the Dome in Swakopmund from 09 to 14 December.

“The preparations are at an advanced stage, and we are just waiting on countries to start arriving, officials as well, and we are ready to receive them and give them a remarkable event,” said Goagoses.

Debmarine Namibia is the main sponsor of the tournament.

She called on Namibian sports enthusiasts to attend in large numbers to support their favourite teams, especially the Namibian ones, to boost their morale and win the tournament.

“We are appealing to all netball lovers, everyone in Namibia and in particular the inhabitants of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund and the Erongo region at large to come in numbers and support your netball teams – it is an opportunity also to see your stars in person,” appealed Goagoses.

Women teams that are expected to participate are from Namibia, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

While men’s teams are from Namibia, Burundi, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Zambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Zambia’s women’s team is the reigning champion after defeating Namibia at the 2023 tournament, which was hosted by Botswana.

The winning team will walk away with floating trophies and medals.
