The Judiciary of Namibia has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Eswatini Chief Justice Bheki M.C. Maphalala, describing him as a visionary judicial leader and a source of strength to the region.
In a statement issued on Monday, Chief Justice Peter Shivute said Maphalala was a “dear colleague” and an active member of the Southern and Eastern African Chief Justices’ Forum (SEACJF), of which Namibia is also a member.
Shivute said Maphalala, who previously served as chairperson of the SEACJF, provided support and encouragement to judicial leaders across the region.
“The SEACJF, of which Chief Justice Maphalala was a past Chairperson, and the region are the poorer for the loss of his visionary leadership,” Shivute said.
He extended condolences to Maphalala’s family, the Judiciary of Eswatini and the people of Eswatini, describing the late chief justice as a selfless and dedicated leader who served his country and judiciary with distinction.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and with the Judiciary of Eswatini as you mourn the passing of a selfless and dedicated leader who served his Judiciary and his country with distinction,” Shivute said.
