The National Petroleum Corporation (Namcor) has announced the successful conclusion of its Annual Marine Tanker Jetty Offshore Industrial Drill test.
The drill, conducted in collaboration with the Namibian Port Authority (Namport), the Namibian Navy, Namibian Police Force, Walvis Bay Municipality Traffic Department and the Walvis Bay Fire brigade, took place at the Namcor offshore Tanker Jetty on 1 December 2023.
Namcor Marketing, Communications and Public Relations Manager Paulo Coelho said that this year’s drill was centred around a comprehensive offshore emergency response procedure, covering firefighting, evacuation, search and rescue operations.
He added that the objective was to evaluate and enhance the preparedness and efficiency of all involved parties in addressing potential emergencies, particularly in the event of a fire at the Tanker Jetty or along the seven-kilometre-long fuel pipeline.
Coelho said the annual drill is an integral part of Namcor’s commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and emergency response preparedness within the marine and petroleum industry.
As it accentuates the corporation’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its operations, employees and the environment.
Ellis Egumbo, the Terminal Manager of Namcor in Walvis Bay, said the drill test was a success and underscores the industry’s readiness for any unforeseen incidents. However, he acknowledges that there is always room for improvement and learning from such drills.
“We are confident that Namcor, the industry and our valued stakeholders are well-prepared to manage emergencies. Nevertheless, we recognise the importance of conducting regular industry drills to ensure unwavering readiness,” said Egumbo.
Egumbo extends his gratitude to all participants who demonstrated their commitment from the lead-up to the drill’s successful completion.
