The Bank of Namibia joined Instant Payments Namibia (IPN) and NamClear for the signing of a Declaration of Intent (DoI), marking an important milestone in a series of engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration and advancing greater alignment between the two entities.
The signing brought together senior representatives from the Bank of Namibia, led by Governor Ebson Uanguta, IPN, led by Chief Operating Officer Marsorry Ickua, and NamClear, led by Managing Director Fabian Tait.
The DoI seeks to bring the work of IPN and NamClear closer by connecting Namibia’s instant payment capability with the country’s existing clearing infrastructure.
This alignment is expected to enhance the efficiency, resilience and interoperability of the national payments ecosystem by strengthening the way payments are processed, cleared and settled across the financial system.
The parties recognised that NamClear’s established role in Namibia’s clearing system, along with its longstanding relationship with the Bank of Namibia of Namibia through the Namibia Interbank Settlement System (NISS), offers a solid basis for closer institutional collaboration.
As digital transformation continues to reshape financial services, expectations have evolved such that payments should move with the same speed, convenience and reliability as information.
In light of this, the broader strategic value of the instant payment platform lies in advancing interoperability, improving access, strengthening efficiency and supporting a more inclusive financial ecosystem that is responsive to the needs of a modern economy.
