After retiring in 2023, Heroldt Murangi was appointed as the executive director of the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (Nipam) for the next three years.
Murangi went from retirement in November 2023 to newly employed on 01 January this year.
He is taking up the role after his predecessor Maria Nangolo’s term ended in 2023 and no substantive head was appointed since.
Murangi, who is over 60 years old, retired from his position as chief executive officer of the Namibian College of Open Learning (Namcol) after he took up the role in 2007.
In a press statement issued late Monday afternoon, Nipam defended Murangi’s recruitment.
“He has over 36 years of working experience, which is marked by significant leadership roles and deep commitment to education and training,” said Nipam spokesperson John Hatutale.
Nipam said Murangi’s appointment will substantially benefit their institution.
“Dr. Murangi’s journey showcased his ability to drive innovation, foster partnership, and enhance institutional performance that will take Nipam to new heights,” Hatutale said.
The executive director role was fulfilled on a temporary basis by senior consultant Butty Salom, manager for strategy and organisational performance Sankwasa Mubita, director of finance and administration Nguvi Zatjirua and the last person to act in this role was Rebeka Kakololo.
