MTC on Tuesday unveiled sponsorships totalling N$101,700,000 to 14 different beneficiaries, across 7 different sports codes which includes Soccer, Horse Racing, Boxing, Rugby, Hockey, Netball and the Youth Games over a 3 year period.
In boxing, MTC chose to maintain its relationship with the MTC Nestor Sunshine and Salute Boxing Academies by giving them an N$1 million dollar per annum, an increase from N$1,750,000 to N$2,750,000.
MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing received an increase of N$100,000 per annum from N$400,000 to N$500,000.
In football, MTC will continue its relationship with the annual Dr Hage Geingob Cup, giving the event an increase of N$200,000 from N$1.4 million to N$1.6 million.
The Hopsol Youth Soccer League becomes a new addition to the MTC family with an annual sponsorship amount of N$500,000.
Receiving the biggest share of the sponsorship with an amount of N$13.5 million is the MTC NFA Cup, which will now become the biggest local football competition in the country.
Netball players can now look forward to plying their trade professionally in the newly created MTC Netball Namibia Premier League, which received an injection of N$4.2 million.
The Men and senior national Hockey teams will each receive an amount of N$1.5 million, which will allow them to prepare adequately for their upcoming international competitions.
The Namibia Youth Games received a much-needed injection of N$5.4 million, which will now allow the Namibia Sports Commission and the Ministry of Sports, Youth & National Service to organize the annual games that sees over 14 different sports codes compete.
The Namibia Horse Racing Association received a welcoming boost with a N$1.5 million-dollar investment that will leave passionate Horse Racing fans smiling as they will see more competitions in the near future.
The Namibia Rugby Union welcomed an N$2.7 million-dollar investment into their Get into Rugby program that will see them promote Rugby across the country and ensure that raw talent in the regions are identified and nurtured to feed Rugby talent.
The Windhoek Fashion Week that will now be known as the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week, after it received an investment of N$3.6 million.
The annual 081Music Fest event received an amount of N$9.6 million for the next 3 years.
The announcement comes the mobile operator celebrated its Most Admirable Brand status.
MTC’s Chief Human Capital & Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo explained that MTC has successfully negotiated naming rights to all these events and look forward to working with these event organizers for the next 3 years.
The sponsorship will be effective from 1st October 2020.
Also speaking at the event, MTC’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Licky Erastus celebrated MTC’s Most Admirable Brand status attributing the company’s success to its Ambassadors, the shareholder and its loyal customers. Dr Erastus officially handed over the Most Admired Brand Certificate to MTC Board Chairperson Theo Mberirua who proposed a toast to celebrate the accolade.
Delivering the keynote address, Honourable Minister of Sports, Youth & National Service Agnes Tjongarero thanked MTC for its massive contribution and cautioned the beneficiaries to safeguard the investment they received by being professional and practicing good corporate governance at all times. The Honourable Minister also addressed the infighting amongst sports leaders which so often affects innocent players and warned that the leaders in sport must turn a new page to advance the interest of sports to attract more investors.
