A 21-year-old woman, identified as Hileni Vemujendavi Virere, has taken her own life after murdering her five-year-old daughter.
According to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the head of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division, the tragic incident happened on Saturday at Otjiwarongo, in the Otjozondjupa Region when Virere’s lifeless body was found hanging from the roof of her shack.
Before the incident, according to Shikwambi, the deceased’s friend made several calls and grew suspicious when she didn’t get a response or pick up. She decided to walk to her house after growing concerned. She smelled a foul odour coming from the deceased’s home as she was getting closer and called the police to report it.
“Members attended to the scene and decided to break open the door. Upon entry into the house they discovered the deceased hanging from the corrugated iron roof inside the house, whilst the lifeless body of the child was laying on the floor,” said Shikwambi.
While no suicide note was found, police investigations continue into the matter.
In a separate incident, a 34-year-old Paulus Megameno was allegedly stabbed to death in the Kilimanjaro location in Windhoek, on Friday at around 22:30 at a home on Peneyambeko Hashoongo Street.
The police report indicates that Megameno’s lifeless body was found lying on the ground by a passer-by in a pool of blood with a stab wound on the neck.
Although the suspect is known, Shikwambi said no arrest has been made and the police investigation continues.
