PRESIDENTIAL Economic Advisor, James Mnyupe, who is also the Green Hydrogen Commissioner, has been assigned to manage the Green Hydrogen (GH2) Implementation Authority Office at the Ministry of Mines and Energy under the GH2 Namibia Program.
According to a media statement issued by the Ministry of Mines and Energy on Monday, Mnyupe will manage the program as its Commissioner for five years, reporting directly to the Minister of Mines and Energy.
“In this regard, he will be in charge of assembling the necessary team to propel the program’s success in the coming months. Mnyupe will continue to serve as Economic Advisor to the President of the Republic of Namibia,” reads the statement.
The statement says the Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy has been in place since November 2022, when Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo officially introduced it.
“A strategy was designed in accordance with the objectives of the Harambee Prosperity Plan II’s Economic Advancement Pillar, with the goal of exploring the potential of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia sectors and developing an appropriate country strategy. The Strategy proposed a 12-point plan that was to be implemented by March 2025. The first stage was to create an Implementation Authority Office to assist the Ministry of Mines and Energy in putting the Strategy into action.
“The Ministry of Mines and Energy is pleased to announce the commissioning of the GH2 Namibia Program Implementation Authority Office. This Program will use money from development partners and, if necessary, the Namibian Government to help the Ministry achieve the goals of the Namibian Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy,” the statement says.
