Nedbank Namibia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of the country’s mining sector through its participation in the Namibia Chamber of Mines Mining Expo, held this week.
The Expo was officially by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who subsequently toured the exhibition area and engaged with exhibitors.
During her visit to the Nedbank Namibia stand, the President met with the Nedbank delegation led by managing director, Martha Murorua.
The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the vital role of partnership, investment and sustainable growth in advancing Namibia’s mining industry and contributing to broader economic development. The visit also underscored the importance of collaboration between government, industry and financial institutions in unlocking opportunities that drive long-term value for the country.
As a committed financial partner to the mining sector, Nedbank Namibia also hosted a client engagement at the expo, bringing together mining industry leaders, investors, business partners, financiers and government representatives for discussions on the future of Namibia’s mining industry.
The engagement was aligned with the overall Mining Expo theme, From Dialogue to Delivery: Assessing Progress in Creating Mining-led Economic Growth and Employment, which highlights the need to turn strategic discussions into tangible action that drives investment, job creation and sustainable economic growth.
Discussions at the event focused on the role of collaboration, innovation and strategic partnerships in advancing Namibia’s mining sector.
Speaking at the function, Murorua highlighted the sector’s significant contribution to the national economy and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting its continued growth: ‘Mining remains one of the most important drivers of Namibia’s economy. In 2025 alone, the sector contributed approximately 14% to the country’s GDP, with mineral sales increasing by 25% from N$51.38 billion in 2024 to N$64.18 billion in 2025.
This growth generated N$7.8 billion in taxes and N$2.458 billion in royalties, while directly supporting close to 21 000 jobs across the country. As Namibia advances new uranium, critical minerals and other mining projects, Nedbank is proud.
She noted that the Mining Expo continues to provide a valuable platform for stakeholders to engage on how Namibia can accelerate its mining project pipeline and leverage growing global demand for minerals, particularly uranium and critical minerals. She emphasised that sustainable growth in the sector will require continued cooperation between government, investors, financiers and mining companies.
