He also honoured his maternal grandparents, teachers, pastors, and elders who imparted wisdom and values that guided him throughout his life.
His gratitude extended to the Mbumba and Nangolo clans, whose love and support made the day possible.
Former President Pohamba, who delivered a touching narration of President Mbumba’s life journey, was also acknowledged for his mentorship.
President Mbumba expressed deep appreciation for the roles played by SWAPO stalwarts and Liberation Struggle icons, including Founding President Sam Nujoma, the second President, Hifikepunye Pohamba, and the late third President, Hage Geingob.
Former President Pohamba while conferring the prestigious honour pointed to the significance of the Order of Welwitschia Mirabilis.
“It is a prestigious award recognizing extraordinary contributions to Namibia,” he said.
Pohamba, who has conferred this honour in the past, stressed the value of international solidarity, drawing parallels to Namibia’s struggle for independence and the support received from global allies like Cuba.
He recalled the immense support and assistance from Cuba during Namibia’s liberation struggle, emphasising that the contributions of such allies have left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.
The ceremony on Saturday again cast the spotlight on Namibia’s enduring values of humility, respect, and dedication to the nation, reflecting President Mbumba’s journey and the collective efforts that have shaped his leadership.
This event not only celebrated President Mbumba’s achievements but also reinforced the importance of unity and mentorship in the nation’s progress.
In addition to acknowledging his personal influences, President Mbumba expressed his profound appreciation for all SWAPO leaders, past and present.
He credited their unwavering patriotism, commitment, and support for his success and the stability of Namibia.
He also thanked the Namibian people for their trust and confidence in his leadership.
“As a President for all Namibians, I want to thank the great people of our beloved nation, the Land of the Brave, for the trust and confidence you have vested in me during my current tenure and in my various portfolios,” he said.
President Mbumba also reflected on the legacy of those who played significant roles in his life, acknowledging the importance of their guidance and support.
He paid tribute to those who have passed on, recognising their lasting impact on his journey.
“Many of those people are present here today, some are not, and sadly others have passed on. May their souls rest in eternal peace. But no matter where they are, they are the reason I am standing here today,” he said.
The conferment of the Most Ancient Order of Welwitschia Mirabilis is a testament to President Mbumba’s dedication and service to Namibia.
The honour bestowed upon the President symbolises the nation’s recognition of his contributions and the significant role he continues to play in shaping the country’s future.
