President Nangolo Mbumba said he is committed to working with the next Government of the Republic of South Africa to strengthen bilateral relations for the development and mutual benefit of the two nations.
Mbumba said this on Wednesday while congratulating South Africa for conducting what he termed as peaceful, free and fair elections.
South Africa held general elections on Wednesday, 29 May 2024, to elect legislative representatives at national and provincial levels.
Following the counting process, the election period concluded peacefully on Sunday, 02 June 2024.
“In that vein, I congratulate the fraternal people of South Africa for peaceful and fair elections, which affirmed South Africa as a leading democracy in Africa and the world. On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Namibia, I commit to working with the next Government of the Republic of South Africa for stronger bilateral relations for the development and mutual benefit of our two nations,” he stated.
Mbumba said that on the 29th of May 2024, millions of South Africans went to the polls to exercise their right to vote, a right denied to the black majority of South Africans for close to a century.
“Democracy is about the sovereign will of the people and the will of the people of South Africa was demonstrated through the announcement of the final results on Sunday, 2nd of June 2024. All observer missions, including the Southern African Development Community Electoral Observer Mission and the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), declared the elections free and fair,” he said.
Mbumba said as a neighbouring and sister country, Namibia takes pride in the manner in which the people of South Africa conducted an exemplary election, which reinforced peace and stability as a precondition for development in the sister Republic of South Africa.
