President Nangolo Mbumba has arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in the Ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 September.

Press secretary Alfredo Hengari announced this on Tuesday, saying the forum is an official forum between the People’s Republic of China and most African countries, as well as the African Union.

Hengari said that on the forum’s margins, President Nangolo Mbumba will hold a courtesy meeting with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.

‘’Namibia’s participation in the FOCAC has proven beneficial, as it has received support in the development of various infrastructure projects such as roads, schools, and capacity-building training, among others. In the same vein, Namibia has also availed opportunities to Chinese companies to invest in sectors, such as mining, which is beneficial to China’s development,’’ said Hengari.

He added that the forum will also accord Namibia an opportunity to strengthen the already existing cordial relationship and improve trade relations between the two countries.

The forum was established to promote equal consultation, enhance understanding, expand consensus, strengthen friendships, and promote cooperation amongst member countries.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Joining Hands to Advance Modernisation and Building a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”

The summit is expected to adopt a declaration and an action plan for 2025 to 2027 as the main communique of the event.
