A 55-year-old man was found dead alongside of Okatana road, at Oshakati in Oshana region after shooting himself while being pursued by the police.
He was found with a gun wound and a pistol next to his body. It is alleged that the deceased was a passenger in a taxi which the police was following. He reportedly asked the taxi driver to stop, then jumped out of the taxi and shot himself dying, on the spot.
Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Naftal Sakaria, confirms the incident. Allegedly the man came to Oshakati from another region, Oshikoto, in which an undetailed incident took place and the man ran away. Police say the man was suicidal before he left his home.
He has since been identified and his next of kin were informed. Police investigations continue.
He added that Namibians in the private sector need to strengthen their collaboration with the public sector for improved healthcare.
