THE Police in the Omakange area is seeking public in find a man suspected of raping a four-year-old boy last Friday.
Police say the suspect is known, but cannot be identified to protect the identity of the victim. Nampol Spokesperson, Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, says the boy is alleged to have been raped by the suspect, who lives in the same house as he does. The incident happened when the victim arrived from school.
“The suspect was alone at home. He allegedly called the victim to his room and forced himself on him. The suspect is known but is not arrested as he escaped from the house. Efforts to arrest him are underway. Mentioning the suspect’s name would essentially identify the child. Remember, this is a school-going child. You can imagine the trauma and psychological impact it already has on him. Identifying him could also lead to bullying from his peers. Our officers on the ground are capable. They will trace him down. Normally in instances where an accused is known, they are easily traced. It is just a matter of time. He can run but he can’t hide,” Kuwinga determines. He adds the suspect’s age is unknown at this stage.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was raped in the wee hours of Friday last week by two unknown men. It is reported that the two men invited the victim for a drink before raping him. The incident, according to the police occurred in front of Zidan Shebeen, Keetmanshoop.
The suspect was on his way from a club when the two men approached him for drinks, according to the police. Kuwinga says the two suspects coerced the victim, until he momentarily passed. “When he woke up the suspects were gone. No arrests have been made yet,” he says.
In a separate incident, a 16-year old girl was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old man in Lüderitz on Saturday, after he lured her to his room.
“He kissed her but when she refused, he told her it was normal. He then removed her pants and had sexual inter course with her using a condom. Police investigations continue,” Kuwinga explains.
The Police in Rehoboth is also investigating a rape incident in which a 20-year-old woman was reportedly raped by an 18-year old man in an open space behind the town’s Block-E. It is alleged that the suspect took out a knife and threatened to stab the victim if she screamed or cried out for help. “He then forced her to go with him to the open space where he undressed her and forced himself on her. The suspect was arrested,” Kuwinga says.
In another chilling rape incident, a 28-year old man was arrested in Windhoek’s Otjomuise area, after he allegedly forced himself on a 19-year-old woman who lives on the same premises he resides.
Allegations are that the suspect, around 3 am on Saturday sneaked into the victim’s room while she was sleeping and subsequently forced himself on her. “She woke up while he was raping her and she screamed for help and family members came to her rescue,” Kuwinga explains.
