The Luderitz Municipal Town Council has allocated more than 140 residential serviced plots by way of an offer to purchase and private treaty in terms of Section 63(2)(3) of the Local Authority Act No. 23 of 1992 to people who earn below-average incomes.
Speaking to the Windhoek Observer on Monday, the mayor of Lüderitz, Phillippus Balhao stated that the serviced land is only available for residential purposes.
“The current serviced plots are only allocated for residential purposes for now; commercial and industrial plots will be made available in the future,” he said.
The Lüderitz municipal council issued a notice earlier this month calling for objections from the community regarding the sale of the plots.
The deadline for submitting objections is 30 July.
“Any person having an objection to the intended sale or who wants to comment thereon may lodge such objections and comments, together with the grounds on which a sealed envelope clearly marked “OBJECTIONS TO THE ERF” is addressed to the office of the chief executive officer,” read the notice.
Balhao explained that the allocated erven are inclusive of low- and middle-income earners, adding that the plots are scattered across the town.
”We are going to give preference to those on the list already, and we have received some objections already, which is normal. But at the same time, we have also received offers from interested parties, so we are working around the clock to ensure that all eligible people are catered for,” explained the mayor.
The plots are estimated to cost N$29 000 to N$130 000 and private treaty plots are going for N$480 000 to N$1.3 million.
The mayor explained that the prices of plots differ from location to location while asserting that the price range is inclusive of all markets.
The residential plots have an estimated square metre of 307-1000, and private plots have an estimated 1 000 to 7 150 square metres, respectively.
During last month’s national mid-term budget discussion, finance and public enterprises minister Iipumbu Shiimi said that N$700 million has been allocated to informal settlement upgrades, land servicing and other programmes.
