For the very first time, the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) is expected to gather for its two-day policy conference this week to discuss strategies concerning policy development and analysis at the national and local government levels within the party.
LPM National Spokesperson, Lifalaza Simataa, announced this in a statement earlier this week.
According to Simataa, the conference is set to take place between 7 and 8 December 2023, in Windhoek.
“The conference will have a program line-up of experts and leaders within various fields, who will give presentations and express their views on how to advance the country in the respective field of policy development, to better serve the Namibian people at both the national and local governance levels,” he said.
The conference will be hosted under the theme: “Deepening and Reaffirming the Restoration of the Dignity of Our People.”
Lifalaza said that the party finds it imperative to communicate and engage with experts in the respective fields.
He stressed that experts and leaders from different fields have valuable insights that can help in policy formulation for the development of the country.
“This engagement with various stakeholders across fields will allow the movement to better inform its policies moving forward, guide the type of narrative that should stand behind them, and ensure that the policies developed are well-informed and well-suited for the Namibian context,” Simataa explained.
The conference is also expected to cover various areas, ranging from governance, agrarian reform, social justice, housing crisis, sports, natural resource legal framework, education, crime and safety, globalization and international relations, employment creation, and climate crises, among other topics.
At the same time, he reiterated that prominent scholars and leaders from local and international entities will share their insights on the above areas. The findings of this conference will be used to formulate policies for the party, he stated.
Apart from the policy conference, Simataa also revealed that LPM will host its second people’s assembly two days after the conference.
He mentioned that this assembly will be a national gathering, where LPM delegates from various parts of the country will come together to determine the political direction and analyze the progress of the party.
“This assembly is expected to host 500 delegates representing various regions and communities,” he added.
