A 64-year-old woman was rushed to the clinic for emergency medical treatment after she was attacked with a panga by her 40-year-old lover.
According to the incident report provided by the Namibian Police in the Oshikoto Region, the vicious attack occurred on Monday evening at the King Kauluma Village after the two were involved in a fight at the Ombili Cucu Shops.
“It is alleged that both the victim and the suspect were drinking at Ombili Cuca Shops before the attack. At one stage the man requested the woman to follow him outside in order for him to chat to her behind the cuca shop,” the report states.
When they got outside the suspect started to beat the victim with his fists. The victim screamed for help and shortly afterwards other people managed to calm the attacker down.
According to the report, the man and his older lover left for her homestead shortly afterwards. When they arrived home a new argument erupted and the man attacked the woman with a panga. He struck her several times with the sharp edge of the blade and she sustained deep wounds to her arms and neck.
The woman fled from the man and locked herself in her sleeping hut which he promptly set on fire. The woman managed to escape from the burning hut without sustaining any burns.
The report indicates that the sleeping hut was burned to the ground.
The attacker was arrested by members of the Namibian Police soon afterwards and the victim was rushed to the clinic at Oshivelo for emergency medical treatment. She was later discharged and sent home.
The man, who originates from the Ohuulo Village near Xangongo in Angola, lived with his older girlfriend at the time of the attack.
The suspect is set to make an appearance before the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He faces charges of Attempted murder as read with the Domestic Violence Act, Act 4 of 2004 as well as arson which will also be read with the Domestic Violence Act.
