Learners have welcomed the decision by the Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) to extend its enrolment period for the 2025 academic year.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Freddy Kaukungua, NAMCOL’s marketing and information officer, who said that the extension was in response to the high demand from students looking to upgrade their qualifications following the release of the January 2025 exam results.
Esther Elifas, who did not achieve passing marks in her Grade 11 exams last year, expressed her excitement about the extension.
“Sometimes, learners may not be ready to register due to various reasons, such as financial issues, but with this extension, there comes another opportunity for learners to improve their points,” she said.
She plans to register at the Yetu Yama Centre next week.
Salom Nanyemba, a learner from Ongwediva, also welcomed the decision, saying many students had missed the initial enrolment period due to limited time.
“The institute made a wise decision by extending the enrolment period. This will benefit many of us,” he said.
He also noted that some parents struggle to gather school fees at the start of the year.
“I am confident that with this extension, some parents will be able to raise the necessary funds and pay the registration fees for their children,” he stated.
Kaukungua outlined the revised enrolment schedule, stating that the northern region will continue uninterrupted enrolment from February 5-7, 2025, at the following centres:
Gabriel Taapopi (NAMCOL regional office in Ongwediva), Outapi CBLC, Eenhana CBLC, and Omuthiya CBLC.
In the southern, northeastern, and central regions, enrolment will close on February 6-7 and resume from February 10-11. The designated centres for these regions include:
- Central region: Paresis (Otjiwarongo) and Duinesig (Walvis Bay).
- Southern region: Jetu Jama (Windhoek), Danie Joubert CS (Mariental), Keetmanshoop TRC, and Hosea Kutako Campus (Gobabis).
- Northeastern region: Dr R Kampungu SS, R Kamunoko SS, Nkurenkuru SS (Kavango), Ngweze SS (Zambezi), and Caprivi SS (Zambezi).
According to Kaukungua, these changes aim to facilitate the redistribution of study materials.
He reiterated that prospective students need to present several documents during the enrolment process, such as an ID card, passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate, and the original certificates of their highest educational qualification.
He said the students are expected to provide an original statement of results from their recent exams.
Foreign nationals are required to submit a valid study permit.
Tuition fees for Grade 11 remain at N$340 per subject, with a non-refundable registration fee of N$130.
Kaukungua stressed that NAMCOL’s decision to extend the enrolment period reflects its commitment to accommodating the growing number of learners eager to improve their academic qualifications.
He reminded students to complete their national examination registration with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture before 7 March.
The entry verification period will run from 14 April to 2 May.
