Katima Mulilo, the capital of the Zambezi region, is pulsating with energy as preparations for the 34th Independence Day celebrations reach a fever pitch.
With just seven days remaining until the monumental day on March 21st, the town has transformed into a bustling hub of activity, eagerly anticipating its role as the host of this year’s official national festivities.
The focal point of the preparations is the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex, where the official celebrations will unfold.
Chaired by Governor Lawrence Sampofu, the Local Preparatory Committee orchestrates meticulous planning, holding regular meetings to ensure every aspect is meticulously organized.
Comprising six subcommittees covering Information and Publicity, Protocol and Safety and Security, Catering, Transport and Logistics, Entertainment, and Finance, the committee is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to deliver a flawless event.
Members of the National Preparatory Committee have joined forces with their local counterparts, underscoring the significance of this year’s celebrations.
It marks the first time in the history of Namibia that the Zambezi region has been entrusted with hosting the Independence Day festivities, a testament to the region’s growing prominence and unity within the nation.
Aundrin Mathe, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, announced the historic occasion, highlighting the theme of this year’s celebrations: “A People United for Prosperity.”
It’s a theme that resonates deeply with the core values of the nation, emphasizing the continuous unity and progress of Namibia as it commemorates 34 years of freedom.
President Nangolo Mbumba is slated to deliver the keynote address, representing the pinnacle of the event as the Head of State. Mathe extended a warm invitation to Namibians from every corner of the country, urging them to join in commemorating the selfless sacrifices that paved the way for the nation’s liberation.
The celebrations promise a diverse array of cultural performances, musical acts, and entertainment activities, reflecting the rich tapestry of Namibian heritage and talent.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on various social media platforms and NBC TV and radio services, ensuring that the spirit of unity and celebration reaches every corner of the nation.
