African Stars Football Club are without a head coach following the sudden resignation of Fillemon “Ronnie” Kanalelo on Wednesday.
The club announced that it had accepted his immediate departure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
“We would like to inform the Okaserundu fans and football fraternity that action is being taken in this regard and further communication will follow in this regard,” reads the statement.
African Stars chairman, Salomo Hei, confirmed to the Windhoek Observer that Kanalelo had stepped down but did not provide reasons for his resignation.
Kanalelo joined the club in February last year and quickly made his mark, leading African Stars to the Debmarine Namibia Premiership title and securing the PstBet NFA Cup.
His contract was originally set to run until July 2026.
Despite the coaching setback, the team remains in contention for silverware.
They recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the MTC Maris Cup, edging out Football Club Ongos 1-0 over the weekend in Oshakati.
Their next challenge will be against Bucks Buccaneers on 15 February in Mariental for a place in the final.
In the Debmarine Namibia Premiership, African Stars currently sit in third place with 15 points from eight matches. They have recorded four wins, three draws, and one loss.
The team is gearing up for a challenging weekend away, starting with a match against last season’s surprise package, Eeshoke Chula Chula, at Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday at 17h00.
The following day, they will take on newly promoted and in-form King Kauluma Palace Football Club at 16h00 at the same venue.
