Am just saying that the off-field game of beef amongst sports administrators at various level in the country, raises a lot of eyebrows, and the need for induction workshops for sports leaders on how governance can plays a pivotal role in shaping the course of our athlete and their performance on the field of play.
This past week, I took time out to go watch various sports code, and one could see the amount of joy, that sports bring to various stakeholders, from the athlete, supporters, parent, friends and foe.
Am just saying, if sports brings so much joy, and as in other country contributes to the socio-economic of the country, why is it that as a nation standing at a crucial juncture where the effectiveness of sports governance can significantly impact both the stability of sporting organizations and the performance of athletes on the field, we as power that be, are failing?.
Am just saying, I don’t want to point fingers, but as the saying goes “ if the shoe fit please wear it”. Am of the opinion that the intricacies of sports governance, has far-reaching consequences on organizational stability and the athletes who represent this country.
Am just saying at the heart of any successful sports organization lies a robust governance structure. This does not mean just nice publications or documents, but also knowledgeable individuals, who are familiar with all the necessary documents to ensure that the organization is prepared to navigate challenges, foster transparency, and uphold ethical standards.
Am saying, a well-organized and accountable governance system is the backbone of stability, providing a solid foundation for the growth and development of sports at all levels.
Am just saying like many other nations, we have our own share of challenges in sports governance. Issues such as financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and inadequate stakeholder engagement can erode the stability of sports organizations. These challenges not only hinder the efficient functioning of the administrative bodies but also cast a shadow on the overall integrity of the sporting landscape.
Am just saying the above issues have a very negative impact on the organization but even far more so, for the athletes. Athletes are the lifeblood of any sports ecosystem, and their success is linked to the health of the organizations governing them. Unstable governance can lead to inconsistent funding, limited access to resources, and a lack of strategic planning – all of which directly impact an athlete’s ability to perform at their best.
The uncertainty stemming from governance issues can create a stressful environment for athletes, hindering their mental and emotional well-being. Athletes perform at their peak when they can focus on training and competition, free from the distractions of organizational turmoil.
Am calling in institutions, with capacity to impact knowledge on the sports community to put resources together to effect reform on sports governance. Transparency, accountability, and inclusivity should be the guiding principles in restructuring administrative bodies. Stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and fans, should have a meaningful voice in the decision-making process, ensuring that the governance structure reflects the diverse needs of the sporting community.
Am just saying the decisions we make today will shape the future of sports in the country. It is now very important that we prioritize the establishment of a governance framework that not only ensures stability in sports organizations but also empowers athletes to shine on the global stage.
Am just saying…..
