Futsal Namibia was set up in 2020, and has been offering men and women, boys and girls, with an opportunity to play the game in an indoor setting, at the Windhoek Show ground hall in Windhoek.
Futsal is played in both professional and amateur leagues but also in schools and most of futsal academies as a strategy to improve players’ development (Barbero-Alvarez et al., 2008).
There has been an increase in popularity which can be confirmed by the rising number of male and female participants, and with it recent admission into the football family in Namibia by the Namibia Football Association, presents an opportunity for the game to gain momentum not only in Windhoek, but also across the country.
It is with the above in mind that we have decided to engage on how this game can be able to raise to greater height especially with providing players at getting to the FIFA Futsal World cup, just like women football in the country has the potential to grow the game.
Am just saying it is imperative that we as a collective make sure that we provide the necessary support in all areas such as administration, management, medical, refereeing and coaching, to those who are interested in investing in the game of futsal.
While the game has seen tremendous growth around the world, Namibia can also benefit from the various funding models by interested organization to make the game both attractive and professionalized at the very early stage of development.
The good thing about futsal Namibia is that currently all the game are played at one central venue, which presents an opportunity for increased mileage for potential partners interested in supporting the game.
Futsal as a game provides a lot of entertainment, due to the display of both tactical and skills by players. With games usually played on weekdays and the season being shorter and more frequent, provides an opportunity for the corporate sector to want to be involved as you only need five players including the goalkeeper to start a team, so you can easily put together a team with your friends or workmates.
With games being played indoors throughout, it ensures that it can be played at any time of the year. Due to the fact that the game is very physically and demanding sport, it offers one a great way to keep fit.
With the Futsal World Cup qualifiers coming up soon, it is important that the teams playing in the Futsal league starting preparing the club structures to make sure that there are compliant and ready to enter the continental competition.
Am just saying individuals who have a vested interested in the clubs, will need to get themselves organized and get the necessary training amongst themselves, while getting the required documents in place both for the club and the players, to be able to participate.
As the season kicks off, let’s make sure the paperwork is also put in place within the clubs.
