Namibia Sport Commission’s (NSC) Chief Administrator, Freddy Mwiya, has announced the appointment of an interim board for the Namibia National Paralympic Committee (NNPC).
The new board will oversee the committee’s affairs for three months and organise an elective congress.
Mwiya announced this on Thursday following the expiry of the previous board’s term.
Last month, the Ministry of Sport froze NNPC’s funding due to irregularities that both Mwiya and the NNPC declined to disclose.
On Thursday, Mwiya confirmed that the funding restrictions have now been lifted to allow access to critical resources for sports development.
“We put emphasis on the importance of unity among committees to ensure that athletes’ needs remain at the forefront of their efforts,” said Mwiya.
The interim NNPC board includes Daniel Trump from Khomas as chairperson, Yvonne Hansen from Hardap as vice-chairperson, Johana Haufiku from Khomas as treasurer, Pedro Nghishiwete from Oshana as public relations officer, Pandulo Sheehama from Khomas as an additional member, and Johannes Matias from Kavango West as an additional member.
Mwiya also announced the lifting of funding restrictions for the Namibia Boxing Federation (NBF) and introduced new board members.
The federation had not complied with the NSC Act.
He said these changes reflect NSC’s commitment to collaboration and to keeping athletes’ interests as a priority.
“The terms of office for the NBF President, Mr Jeremia Ndjembo, and Executive Member, Mr Lysias Hangula, will conclude on February 27, 2026, after serving for a decade. This aligns with the Namibian Sport Act No. 12 of 2003, which limits executive committee terms to a maximum of ten years. I urge a seamless transition in leadership to maintain operational continuity within the federation,” said Mwiya.
The NBF’s Secretary General, Petrue Kashango, welcomed the NSC’s decision and reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to supporting athletes.
She also acknowledged the recognition by the International Olympic Committee of World Boxing as a governing body and confirmed the NBF’s intent to affiliate with it.
The NBF board includes Jeremia Ndjembo as president, Immanuel Hamukwaya as vice president, Petrue Kashango as secretary general, Trefina Shovolo as treasurer, Lysias Hangula as head of referees and judges, Selma Shikukumwa as deputy head of referees and judges, Joel Ngungu as legal advisor, Lazarus Amuthenu as head of competition, Israel Hamutumbangela as head of coaches, Martin Shipindo as deputy head of coaches, and Kefas Itaratjike as an additional member.
