Instant Payments Namibia (IPN) has announced the official unveiling of WayaMe, the consumer-facing brand of Namibia’s Instant Payment Solution (IPS), chief operating officer of IPN, Marsorry Ickua announced.
The Instant Payment Solution is a pioneering initiative set to revolutionise financial services across Namibia. The solution is administered by the Bank of Namibia subsidiary, Instant Payments Namibia.
Ickua said the introduction of WayaMe marks a significant milestone in Namibia’s payments modernisation journey and forms part of broader efforts to create a more inclusive, interoperable and digitally enabled payment ecosystem.
Derived from the familiar phrase “Wire Me”, WayaMe reflects a simple and relatable expression commonly associated with sending money electronically.
The name was intentionally selected for its familiarity, ease of use and relevance to everyday payment interactions.
It embodies the vision of a payment experience that is instant, accessible and designed around the needs of all Namibians.
WayaMe is the consumer-facing brand of Namibia’s Instant Payment Solution through which users can access and recognise payment services enabled by the platform.
Ickua said the brand will play an important role in supporting public awareness, understanding, and adoption of Namibia’s fast payment solution, coupled with the phased introduction of new products, services, and use cases that will modernise the national payment ecosystem.
He said over time, the platform will support a range of payment use cases, including government-to-person payments, person-to-person transfers, merchant payments, business payments and the ability to withdraw funds from any wallet from any ATM.
“As part of the national rollout, participating financial institutions and payment service providers will progressively incorporate WayaMe into their consumer education, awareness and marketing initiatives,” said Ickua.
He said consumers will begin to see the brand featured across public awareness campaigns, digital platforms, educational material and payment-related communications, helping to build familiarity and confidence in the platform and its associated services.
Ickua acknowledged the guidance of the ministry of finance and the ministry of information and communication technology, as well as the valuable contributions of participating institutions across the banking and payments industry.
“Their collaboration, expertise, and commitment continue to drive the successful implementation of the Instant Payment Solution. Special appreciation is also extended to our technology partner, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), for its technical support and partnership in
developing a modern, secure, and interoperable payment platform for Namibia,” said Ickua.
