A yet unknown amount of money was stolen when the iconic Canyon Roadhouse at one of Namibia’s most impressive tourist attractions, the Fish River Canyon was broken into by a gang of burglars.

Gondwana Collection Namibia’s Brand and Marketing Director, Manni Goldbeck, confirmed the burglary and added that the incident occurred during the early morning hours of 18 April 2024 when four or five members of the gang entered the main restaurant area of the Canyon Roadhouse.

“After overpowering a member of our security team, the robbers gained entrance to the main restaurant area by breaking through the doors. They targeted the automatic teller machine (ATM) inside the restaurant and the safe in the office,” he said.

Goldbeck added that the security guard succeeded in informing the management of the lodge about the break-in.

“No guests at Canyon Roadhouse were directly impacted by this incident,” he said.

He said that the operations of Canyon Roadhouse were not impacted and that the operation at the lodge would continue to run smoothly and safely for the peace of mind of Gondwana’s guests and its employees.

“Gondwana Collection Namibia will continue to uphold its internal security measures,” he added.

Goldbeck thanked the Namibian Police, who immediately came to the aid of the road house’s employees and who assisted them during the situation.

He said an investigation into the matter was opened and added that no arrests have been made yet.
