Human remains discovered at a riverbank in Otjomuise, Windhoek, have been identified as those of 31-year-old Anton Topnaar, who was reported missing on 20 October 2025.

Earlier this month, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the remains after they were discovered at a riverbank, approximately 200 metres east of the Matshitshi gravel road in Otjomuise.

According to NamPol head of public relations deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, police were alerted by a member of the public and attended the scene, where they found human remains along with several personal items.

“After receiving information from a member of the public, the Namibian Police Force attended the scene and discovered the following items alongside the human remains: a black Johnson T-shirt, a pair of yellow tracksuit trousers and a pair of Havaianas sandals,” Shikwambi said.

The identification of the remains has since confirmed the identity of the missing person as Topnaar, according to Nampol on Thursday.

Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
