President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has officially commissioned Christine //Hoëbes as Namibia’s new High Commissioner to Malaysia during a ceremony at State House in Windhoek today.
The appointment, made under Article 32(3)(c) of the Namibian Constitution, tasks //Hoëbes with safeguarding national sovereignty, promoting Namibia’s interests, and advancing the country’s development agenda in Malaysia.
The President highlighted the longstanding cordial relations between the two nations, which date back to Malaysia’s support for Namibia’s independence struggle.
Since 1990, diplomatic ties have flourished, with Malaysia remaining an important trading partner in Asia.
Nandi-Ndaitwah noted significant untapped potential to diversify trade and attract investment, particularly in renewable energy, oil and gas services, logistics, ports development, and tourism, with opportunities enhanced by the recent visa-free travel policy for Namibians.
//Hoëbes was directed to focus on translating this friendship into tangible economic benefits, deepening political dialogue, promoting high-level exchanges, and encouraging private sector collaboration.
Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that particular attention should be given to attracting investments, expanding market access for Namibian products, facilitating technology transfer, and supporting Namibia’s digital transformation agenda by leveraging Malaysia’s expertise in innovation and smart technologies.
She stressed that the mission must contribute to Vision 2030, the Sixth National Development Plan, and the priorities of the Eighth Administration.
The President further urged //Hoëbes to lead with integrity, humility, and accountability, maintain close ties with Namibians in Malaysia.
