Grants offered for small businesses

The US African Development Foundation (USADF) and the Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade is inviting proposals from Namibian cooperatives, producer groups, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) for grant financing and local support to develop innovative solutions that enhance their capabilities. These solutions aim to increase food security, add value to local products, boost revenues, create jobs, improve incomes, and foster sustainable market-based growth.

The USADF and the trade ministry said they are welcoming proposals from registered cooperatives, producer groups, processors, distributors, and service providers in Namibia who are actively engaged in the following value chain sectors: grain, livestock, horticulture, and agro-processing. We also encourage innovative approaches to agricultural and economic development, including but not limited to digitalization, information technology, and agricultural solutions powered by renewable energy.

In addition to cooperatives and producer groups, we are open to proposals from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises working in sectors such as woodworking, garment production, metal fabrication, cosmetics, detergent production, and digital services.

Applicants must demonstrate a track record of successful collaboration for a minimum of two years, a significant number of active members, suppliers, or clients, and the capacity to effectively utilise grant funds. Ownership and management should align on the issues to be addressed and share a commitment to benefit their community. Furthermore, organisations must have established basic functional management and financial controls for at least two years to illustrate their ability to manage MASP funds effectively.

Applicants must be formally registered with the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA), the Social Security Commission (SSC), The Namibia Revenue Agency (Namra), or the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform (MAWLR). It is essential that these organisations are Namibian-owned and led.

The US African Development Foundation is an independent US government agency established by Congress to invest directly in African grassroots enterprises and social entrepreneurs. USADF’s investments aim to increase incomes, revenues, and job opportunities by promoting self-reliance and market-based solutions to combat poverty.
