Freelance journalist wants to transform Namibia

Freelance journalist Frans Koolike, who announced that he aims to stand as an independent candidate for President in the November elections, has vowed to revolutionise and transform Namibia.

Koolike announced his campaign as an independent candidate last week.

“I am standing to redefine the parameters of political leadership and transform the livelihoods of our people,” he said.

He joins the likes of Ally Angula and social activist Rosa Namises.

Koolike is also a leadership consultant.

He said he decided to run for president because the Swapo government became embattled and engulfed in a series of corruption allegations.

He said Swapo’s failure to move with time has raised eyebrows.

Koolike made this statement in response to questions sent to him by the Windhoek Observer on Sunday.

“The revolutionary transformation and development will be built on the foundation of self-reliance, whereby food production and food security will be prioritised in order to realise self-reliance-based food systems,” he said.

He said that the premise of revolutionary transformation and development is based on the principle of socialism-cum-pan-Africanism-oriented development imperatives.

Additionally, he promised to promote economic expansion grounded in principles of dignity, equality, and justice.

These principles, he said, are to be realised and strengthened by promoting good governance, national cohesion, and maintaining peace and unity.

He explained that his leadership will direct and monitor the governments to ensure the immediate implementation of food production programs.

Koolike stated that he endeavours to transform Namibia’s economy and foster people-centred development to close the widening inequality gap, reduce class inequality, and aggressively combat the poverty phenomenon in our society.

“We will repatriate all financial means shipped out to add value to other economies. We will create a prohibition policy for all our raw materials. We will accrue revenue by renegotiating all agreements and contracts for the benefit of our people,” he stated.

Koolike’s master plan involves the creation of a new commercial town, either in Erongo, Otjozondjupa, or the Kharas region, to facilitate the modernization and developmental planning of a modern economy.

He also plans to establish a national employment agency that will facilitate all government employment-related needs and services.

To end homelessness and street kids, Koolike said he would introduce a progressive national minimum wage for workers.
